The smell of fresh cut grass....

So wrap your mind around this one...

Tony and I took the girls for a walk around the 'hood tonight in their wagon. We were super pumped because it was warm enough for them to wear their new flip flops! (Their toes are cute enough to EAT, I swear!) Anyway, after huffing and puffing pulling all 75 pounds of Radio Flyer and twins, we decided to take the top off the Jeep and take a short drive.

While Tony was taking the Jeep apart, I took the girls out of the wagon. Because our girls are Chinese hillbillies, they had taken off their adorable little flops within two minutes of being in the wagon. So when I picked them up, I just plopped them in the grass until I could load them in the Jeep.

Well, one day last week Laney got to touch the grass with her bare feet and it lasted like a nanosecond before she howled. I wondered what this experience would bring. After I set them down, they both stood stock still like statues. They weren't whining yet, but they weren't lovin' it either.

I immediately took off my flops and tried to make it a game. I talked about how it felt on their toes and between their toes. I talked about how cold it was, etc. Then I pretended like they were trying to get me and I was trying to get away. (Yeah, right, they were frozen solid) Well, it finally worked...Abby stretched her toes out and grinned. Took a step and giggled. Her smile was priceless. Laney followed suit once she knew the grass didn't eat Abby's feet after a step or two. I'm proud to say they took three whole steps before they freaked and wanted, "Up beease"!

So imagine that...two years and 3 months old and experiencing the feel of grass on your bare feet for the very first time. The girls have had many, many firsts and many emotions associated with each one (swinging, um, yeah, wow). But this one really struck me. I'm so sad that they haven't had that experience. I'm so sad that they're scared to feel it. However, I am elated that we got to share that with them though. My goal is to have them chasing lightning bugs barefooted by July.

Just thought I'd share another first with you...I had to choke back tears and laughter all at once.

God is good...all the time...

P.S. Still no word on Grissom :(

P.S.S. Don't forget to look at our cuties on Tony's post below!

I need help with Grant too. He won't even wear sandles! He is so funny about that. Let me know what tricks work! I love it that you were able to experience another first with the girls!

I remember trying to put my boys down in the grass, the closer they got to the ground, the higher the feet and legs went up in the air.

Priceless:)

God bless all of you,
Lynnette

Wow, your blog is absolutely stunning! Talk about extreme makeover, not that it wasn't adorable before though. I LOVE the colors! I will have to get some tips from you about how you did that.....I know you said you had help....that I would definitely need. The "toes in the grass" story was so touching. You guys are making memories every day with your girls! Isn't it amazing to see God's plan for you as parents unfold? He wants you to have a gazillion more joys with your gilrs like this one, so do we!!! Chase didn't like the grass on his feet either until about 3. One of his sensory preferences. He doesn't like to touch food - another sensory preference. We all have some here and there. I can't stand my feet touching something wet. We all have issues!!! Maryn, is about game for anything, she's more about tastes. She likes things spicy and she detests bad breath and lets you know about it! So ready to get our kids together at this reunion picnic. I am going to take your advice and take a break from this planning, hopefully Tony is too. We appreciate our spouses putting up with us during this busy prep time! Oh, and the early pronouns should come, they're hearing you use them and with being a teacher, what better model could they have? Using "my" is a great two-word phrase game to play in their room, etc. You'll be hearing: "It's Mine!!" before long I am sure. Kids kinda get stuck in 3rd person, it seems. I have had a lot of kiddos who did that and the parents were like: "where's the pronoun?" I've noticed that if I teach to he/she/it plus verb + ing with action pictures, they like this because they can color the pic and talk about what the kid is doing in the picture (more like 2 1/2 - 3years). It is kind of neat b/c at this age, they receptively know "boy" and "girl" and I think if you start there with the respective pronoun (actually more higher level than "my"), the kids pick it up fast. Sorry for the novel and sorry Tony about the teacher talk, :) Thanks for the updates!
